Welcome to this month’s edition of the writer linkup, Beautiful People! (For February’s loved up post, head over here.)
Thank you to Cait of Paper Fury and Sky of Further up and Further in for hosting this monthly meme and blog hop. If you’d like to take part, pop over to the hostesses with the mostesses’ blogs and steal the image and questions for your own post, and add your link to the list. It’s open all month long, so there’s no rush if you’ve got a whole heap of blog post ideas stacked up in your drafts (like me).
This month’s questions are designed to help you get to know your chosen character better (it doesn’t have to be your MC!).
This should be fun!
Introducing my MC, Aria Colling, 17.
1. What’s their favourite book/movie/play/etc.?
Any play her mum is performing in with the local amateur dramatics group. She loves action and adventure movies, her dogs are named Maximus and Leonidas! Her favourite books are anything about myths and legends, especially the local legend of the White Hart of Hartwood.
2. Is there anything they regret doing?
Not trying harder in school – Aria isn’t particularly academic, and now that her best friend, Jasper is going to University and she’s staying behind in the small town they grew up in, she’s really regretting not being smarter, or more dedicated to her studies.
3. If they were sick or wounded, who would take care of them and how?
Definitely her mum, they’re really close and tell each other everything. She’d probably get Aria wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa, make her a mug of hot chocolate and stick the cooking channel on so they could both drool over the cakes.
4. Is there an object they can’t bear to part with and why?
Not an object, but her best friend, Jasper. They’ve been inseparable since birth and she can’t imagine her life without him when he moves away to Uni.
5. What are 5 ways to win their heart (or friendship)?
A shared love of food, bringing her coffee from her favourite place, a love of animals (particularly dogs!), a good sense of humour and listening to her ramblings about the White Hart, which she claims to have seen in the woods as a child, but no one believes her.
6. Describe a typical outfit for them from top to bottom.
Long red hair, no jewellery, an old t-shirt (probably a band, or from one of the many Hard Rock Cafes around the world), her favourite blue jeans and low-heeled ankle boots. Maybe a zip up hoodie if it’s cool.
7. What’s their favorite type of weather?
Aria loves the Spring, when the days start getting warmer and lighter in the evening, the flowers come out and the world comes back to life. She hates extreme weather, anything too hot or too cold.
8. What’s the worst fight they’ve ever been in?
Aria’s never been in a physical fight, but she has had her heartbroken. She was in love with Jasper when they were younger and dreamed they would grow up, get married and live in Hartwood forever. When they were fourteen, Jasper told her he’s gay, he’d noticed her crush and didn’t want to lead her on (he pretended not to know how she felt, though). They stayed best friends and are closer than ever, but he’ll always be her first love.
9. What names or nicknames have they been called throughout their life?
Her father calls her Teacup, short for Storm in a Teacup, because she was a very spirited, stubborn child and had frequent tantrums over nothing. Her mum just calls her pet names like love and sweetie, and Jasper sometimes calls her Red (because of her hair). The Gnomes call her Princess, which really annoys her, and people keep calling her Ariadne, but she has no idea why.
10. What makes their heart feel alive?
Adventure! Road trips, holidays, trying new things and spending time with her dogs, Max and Leo. She’s a huge animal lover and being with them is her happy place.
That was a fun little insight into Aria’s life! Tell me about your characters in the comments, and leave a link to your post so I can hop along and check out your blog.
Till next time,
Lyndsey
