Ten book series I want to read

Ten book series I want to read

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday theme is ten series I’ve been meaning to read but haven’t, so get ready to scream at me in the comments for not having read your faves yet! TTT is a weekly meme hosted by the fabulous ladies over at The Broke and the Bookish, head over there and check out next week’s topic so you can join in the fun.

Top Ten Tuesday

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Cinder by Marissa Meyer Lyndsey's Book Blog

First on my list is The Lunar Chronicles because it’s probably the biggest, most popular series I still haven’t read yet. I’m taking part in a buddy read of Cinder next month, so this one is due to be rectified very soon! Have you read The Lunar Chronicles? Would you recommend it? I’m not usually a sci-fi fan, but I can’t escape how well-loved this series is.

Lux by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsidian Jennifer L. Armentrout

This one has been on my list for absolute years, and I’ve heard the love interest is serious book boyfriend material, but I’ve just never gotten round to it. If you’ve read Lux, did you love it? It has great Goodreads reviews, but I worry it will be a little too Twilight for my taste…

divider-grey

Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab

A Darker Shade of Magic V. E. Schwab

Now, this one I really, really need to rectify! A Conjuring of Light came out this year so I can finally binge the whole series, I just need to get my hands on it. I have a feeling I’ll be waiting a while if I request it from the library…

divider-grey

Monsters of Verity by Victoria Schwab

This Savage Song Victoria Schwab

Continuing the Schwab love, I also need to read This Savage Song and Our Dark Duet. Like, immediately. Which Schwab series would you recommend I read first?

divider-grey

The Young Elites by Marie Lu

The Young Elites Marie Lu

I haven’t read any Marie Lu yet, but I hear all good things, so this is right up there on my list. It’s said to be a villain origin story, which sounds amazing (Vicious by V.E. Schwab is another villain origin story on my list) and it has a pretty high rating on Goodreads, so I’ll check this one out soon too.

divider-grey

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

To all the boys I've loved before Jenny Han

I’m not usually a fluffy contemporary girl (in case you didn’t notice from all the fantasy on this list!) but I’ve seen so many people flailing over this series and how cute and adorable it is, how diverse and amazing it is, so I put it straight on my TBR. This is another trilogy where the final book was released recently, so I won’t have to worry about a long wait between books!

divider-grey

The Falconer by Elizabeth May

The Falconer Elizabeth May

Set in 19th Century Scotland? Yes, please! The Falconer sounds amazing, and I follow the author on Twitter and she’s just fabulous, so I’m dying to get round to this series soon.

divider-grey

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

Rebel of the Sands Alwyn Hamilton

I don’t even have an excuse for not starting this series, I own Rebel of the Sands and have Traitor to the Throne on hold at my library. I’ll definitely read this one in the next few months!

divider-grey

Gentleman Bastard by Scott Lynch

The Lies of Locke Lamora Scott Lynch

This is billed as part Robin Hood, part Ocean’s Eleven – how good does that sound? Living near Sherwood Forest, I have a soft spot for anything even remotely Hoody. Anti-heroes are definitely my jam, just ask Kaz Brekker. I’m definitely going to see if my library has this now…

divider-grey

Penryn & the End of Days by Susan Ee

Angelfall Susan Ee

This is another that has been on my list for years, and I’m slightly worried might not be my thing anymore. My tastes have changed quite a bit since FallenΒ and Hush, Hush. If you’ve read this, would you recommend it now?

divider-grey

Time for you to sound off in the comments – have you read any of these? Loved them? Hated them? Pop your TTT post links in the comments too, I need more series recs to add to my vertiginous TBR!

  3. I really need to get to The Lunar Chronicles & ADSOM! I will be reading Cinder in July as its the Book of the Month for a Goodreads group I’m apart of, so that will be a good excuse so I can’t just keep skipping over it!

You really need to get to Rebel of the Sands! Rebel of the Sands was my favourite book of the entire of last year and Traitor of the Throne only just got taken over by Strange the Dreamer for my favourite book so far this year! Hope you enjoy it when you get to it!

I think we might be in the same Goodreads group (YA Book Bloggers?) because that’s our July Book of the Month too! So, I’m definitely going to read the Lunar Chronicles this year at the very least. I’ll push Rebel up my TBR then! πŸ˜€

    2. Sorry to barge in, but I help run a GR group called Forgotten YA Gems and I think Cinder is going to be our July BOTM too, if either of you are interested in chiming in on our discussions! πŸ˜€

      1. That would be cool. I will be sure to check out the group! I haven’t actually participated in any Bookish groups or group reads before so killing 2 birds with one stone on my first go would be cool! πŸ˜‚

      2. Haha, right! Our June BOTM was our first as a group and it was actually my first ever group read. It went better than I expected it to, considering I’m usually a “mood reader” rather than a schedule reader. πŸ˜‚

      9. I don’t like the voice he does for Blue or the other females, it’s just a bit off. The normal reading is okay though.

Agreed, he definitely can’t pull off female voices. He was a strange choice for this series I think, just wait til he starts singing!!

  6. We have very similar lists! I still need to read The Lunar Chronicles, Shades of Magic, and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before as well. I hope we can both cross them off our TBR soon πŸ™‚

Me too, good luck with your TBR, if you want to buddy read Cinder next month there’s a Goodreads group for YA Book Bloggers that a few of us are members of and it’s our book of the month πŸ™‚

  7. Cinder and The Falconer are on my list! Heartless was incredible so I know the Cinder series will be! The Shades of Magic trilogy was good!

    1. lyndleloo says:

I’m glad you enjoyed Heartless, I liked the sound of it but saw quite a few reviews leaning on the negative side, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m in two GR groups reading Cinder in July now so I’m sure all the discussion will be fun! πŸ™‚

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I saw those too, but I try to ignore the negatives unless they come right out and say that the writing style was awful. I really want to read Cinder but I need to look online to buy the single book.

  9. I’ve read Cinder and The Falconer. Cinder was EPIC. The Falconer was a little on the violent side for me. Maybe I’m crazy, but I think we all have a threshold. That one stepped over mine.

    1. lyndleloo says:

I have a pretty high violence threshold (I think, although you’ve unnerved me slightly now) so hopefully I’ll like it! I’m so excited to read Cinder next month πŸ˜€ and then devour the rest of the series straight after!

I love the Lunar Chronicles! The books get better and better with each installment. And yes, the Shades of Magic series is absolutely wonderful! The Young Elites is also really good though I haven’t read the last one yet. I haven’t heard about Penryn & the End of Days for so long! I loved those books! Maybe just try the first one and see if you like it?
Great list! I hope you get to these books soon!

  13. Shades of Magic is amazing! I also really loved Rebel of The Sands. I liked This Savage Song, I think I just read it too close to ACOL, so it was impossible for it to live up! I have The Young Elites and the first Penryn book on my TBR.

      1. Maybe! Definitely read it before A Conjuring of Light, I think that was my mistake, that series finale was so perfect, no book could ever live up. I’m sure you will, her writing is so fantastic!

Thanks Delphine! I think YA has really come into its own lately, there’s been some amazing books released. I’m so excited for Shades of Magic I almost done want to read it yet because once I’ve read it I won’t have it to look forward to anymore… Does that make sense? πŸ˜‚
